Grand Opening Stand Etiquette in Kuala Lumpur: Who Sends What
Suppliers, landlords, partners and friends all send different stands. A KL guide to size, timing, wording and the quiet hierarchy at a shop opening.

At a Kuala Lumpur shop opening the row of flower stands outside is a public record of who showed up. Everyone reads it, including the people whose names are missing.
There is an unspoken hierarchy to it, and getting your place in that row right is easier than it looks.
Match the stand to the relationship
Close business partners and major suppliers send double-tier stands, typically RM420 and up. Fellow tenants, professional contacts and mid-size suppliers send a single tier at RM220 to RM380. Friends and family often send a lucky cat basket or a gift arrangement instead, which sits inside the shop rather than at the door — a different, warmer statement.
Get the banner wording right
Line one: the congratulation, in Chinese, English or both. Line two: the recipient's business name exactly as registered on the signboard. Line three: your name or company. Overlong sender lines look cluttered in photos — the recipient will remember who sent it either way.
Timing in a KL context
Deliver the evening before, or by 8am on the day. Many KL openings are timed to an auspicious hour before nine, and a stand that arrives during the ribbon-cutting has missed the only photos that matter. Give us the mall or shoplot name, the unit number and an on-site contact — new units in malls are frequently uncharted.
After the opening
Stands stay up three to seven days. We can collect afterwards on request, which shop owners appreciate — disposing of a two-metre stand in a mall is nobody's idea of a good week two.
Frequently asked questions
Is it too late to send one on day two?
It is still welcome, but the photos are gone. Send a lucky cat basket instead if you missed the day.
Can two companies share one stand?
Yes, joint banners with both names are common and look deliberate.
Do malls restrict flower stands?
Some do. Check with the management office before ordering a double-tier.
